Kings County

Kings County, located south of Fresno County, and east of Tulare County, covers 1,391 square miles in the Central Valley. Its population, estimated at more than 149,000 (State of California Department of Finance, 2007), includes a significant Hispanic or Latino population.

Agriculture is an important industry in Kings County, with milk and cotton being the two highest-producing commodities (Kings County 2006 Agricultural Crop Report).

Kings County has the lowest per-capita income in the United States, with 19.5 percent of the population living below the poverty line (2000 U.S. Census).
