Fresno Regional Foundation to grant $370,000

for Human Services and Teen Pregnancy Prevention

Applications for grants invited.

Fresno, CA – Fresno Regional Foundation (FRF) announced the opening of its Human Services competitive grant cycle. $370,000 will be granted to organizations serving Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings, Merced and Mariposa counties addressing Human Services and Teen Pregnancy Prevention.

FRF, with support from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, will give $250,000 to organizations working to reduce teen pregnancy in the San Joaquin Valley, where teen pregnancy rates remain very high in comparison to the rest of California and the U.S.

“The Teen Pregnancy Prevention grantmaking initiative has gained the support of parents, schools, and young people in ways that were previously deemed impossible,” said FRF Chief Executive Officer Dan DeSantis.

An important component of programs that FRF aims to fund is education of the community about reproductive health and its links to overall well-being.

Teen pregnancy imposes serious costs to society in the form of lower incomes, public assistance, foster placement and incarceration, according to a 2010 Public Health Institute report.

In addition to Teen Pregnancy Prevention, the Fresno Regional Foundation will also grant $120,000 to organizations for capacity-building strategies that focus on board governance, fiscal management and organizational and community leadership development.

Organizations must submit an Organizational Profile Form (OPF) and grant application to be considered for a grant. Deadlines for the OPF and grant application are August 3, and 10, respectively.
