Fresno Regional Foundation and Harris Ranch Beef Collaborate to Feed Needy

500 Pounds of Pot Roast Donated to Poverello House

Fresno, CA - November 24, 2008 - The Fresno Regional Foundation and Harris Ranch worked together to bring a 503-pound beef donation to Poverello House this holiday season.  Poverello House usually purchases hams for its annual Christmas luncheon, but with the current state of the economy and food shortages on the rise in the Central Valley, the non-profit organization desperately needed an alternative. Thanks to the generous donation by Harris Ranch, pre-cooked frozen pot roasts will replace the ham and be used on December 25 to feed approximately 1,000 people.

"On behalf of Poverello House and those we serve, we are extremely grateful to the Fresno Regional Foundation and Harris Ranch," said Jim Connell, Executive Director of Poverello House.  "Generous donations and partnerships like these are vital to our mission of serving the poor of our community.  Fresno Regional Foundation's leadership and caring about our community is evident with the enormous support they give to local non-profit organizations like ours."

In early November 2008, the Foundation received a request for help from Poverello House, because it was lacking the funds to purchase enough food for those in need.  The Foundation approached long time supporter and donor, John Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Harris Ranch Beef for assistance and he was immediately interested and wanted to help out.  This is a perfect example of how philanthropy can benefit the community.

"I have been familiar with Poverello House for years and have toured its facility, and know personally several of its board members," Harris said.  "They are a well run organization serving a critical need for the less fortunate in the community.  We were pleased to help them out and hope everyone enjoys our pot roast."
