Madera County

Madera County is located at the center of California. Covering 2,147 square miles, it includes some of the richest agricultural land in the nation and houses a portion of southern Yosemite National Park. Its population, approximately 50 percent of Latino or Hispanic origin, is estimated at more than 146,000 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2006). According to the state, the population is projected to grow quickly, nearing 225,000 people by 2020.

Madera County's economy relies heavily on the agricultural industry, with 29.9 percent of employment being in agriculture (Madera-County.com). The county's main crops are grapes, dairy, and almonds. The government is also a significant employer in the county. 

In Madera County, community needs include addressing social and environmental factors related to its fast-growing population and the 21.4 percent of residents who live on incomes below the poverty line (2000 U.S. Census).

Community impact in Madera County

Madera Rescue Mission and the Children’s Hospital of Central California Foundation, both located in Madera, have received grants from Fresno Regional Foundation. Both organizations are known to donors who have donor advised funds at the Foundation.

The Foundation helps donor advisors make greater impact with their grants. Our staff ensures that organizations are financially viable and are working toward their mission by reviewing their financial documents and making site visits.
