Tulare County

Tulare County, located in central California, enjoys a diverse geography. The county covers an area of 4,863 square miles, with the peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains, which reach an elevation of more than 14,000 feet in the east, and a fertile valley floor to the west.

Tulare County is the second-largest producer of agricultural commodities in the U.S., with dairy being its primary industry. Oranges, grapes, and other cattle-related products also play important roles in its economy. Additionally, Tulare County sustains substantial packing and shipping operations, with an increasing number of light and medium manufacturing plants.

Tulare County has a growing population of 397,000. It is home to Sequoia National Park and National Forest, Kings Canyon National Park, and the Mineral King, Golden Trout and Domelands Wilderness areas. The county offers ample recreational opportunities, including hiking, water and snow skiing, fishing and boating. 

Approximately half of Tulare County's diverse population is Latino, with almost 40 percent speaking Spanish. Tulare County is among the most impoverished counties in California with nearly 24 percent of its population living on incomes below the federal poverty line.
