Poverello House – 2006 Grant Awards $38,900.

1400 meals a day, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, are served in the dining room at Poverello House. What began as a program to feed the hungry, has grown into a multi-service agency which provides temporary shelter for the homeless, clothing, medical care, and rehabilitation programs. All services are free to the clients.

"Arts to Zoo Initiative" Funds Local Grants
Funds originally collected through a now rescinded tax initiative were assigned to the Fresno Regional Foundation to disburse to nonprofit organizations within the city in a competitive grant process.

Only organizations located within the city of Fresno may apply. Fresno Regional Foundation will begin accepting applications on March 1, 2007. A total of $100,000 will be awarded; one grant for $50,000 and the remainder given in various increments to numerous organizations.

Youth Grants – from The James Irvine Foundation
We are pleased to announce seven awardees of the James Irvine Foundation Youth Grants as of March 30, 2007:

•Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fresno, Kings and Madera $30,000

• Boys & Girls Club of Tulare County $30,000

• CASA $23,000

• Comprehensive Youth Services $30,000

• Edison High School AVID Program $15,192

• Encourage Tomorrow $30,000

• New Life Urban Strategies $15,000

The total amount from the James Irvine Foundation was $135,000 and the Fresno Regional Foundation Board funded the additional $37,000 through discretionary dollars from the Fresno Regional Foundation Youth Education Fund.
